Opera Prima

Name: Opera Prima
Variety: Pink Moscato
Region: La Mancha
Country:Spain
Year: 2012
Price: $10 (sale for $6.95)

Winery review: A blend of Muscat 97% and Tempranillo 3%. This fine sparkling presents an intense aroma of fresh berries and tropical fruits with hints of white flower petals. Delicate bubbles caress the palate offering a silky and pleasant sweetness well balanced by a crisp, refreshing finish. Ideal on its own, as an aperitif or with all types of sweets and desserts. Serve it very cold, between 7 and 9°.

My review: I really really liked this one! I was sweet and a bit fruity. I wanted to immediately try it with rocky road ice cream as odd ad that sounds because I felt that this would go great with the dark coco taste of the ice cream since it was sweet and fruity. I have in the past tried Moscatos but found that I didn't like them the server though told me it was a good chance that I didn't keep it cold which i didn't I also learned that putting ice into wine(something i've done quite frequently) actually cuts the flavor of the wine since when the ice melts it dilutes the wine. Ranting aside I would recommend this wine and I bought a bottle of it just to continue testing

Cortenova

Name: Cortenova
Variety: Primativo
Region: Puglia
Country: Italy
Year: 2012
Price: $10 (sale for $6.95)

Winery review: Dark, ruby-red color with violet highlights. Intense and fragrant bouquet with a rich array of red and black fruit aromas and flavors. Harmonious and velvety on the palate. Great balance and structure. 100% Zinfandel

My review: I want to start by saying I really liked this one. I was confused cause when I first to my sip it was a very strong taste very fruit/bittery which I like. What confused me the most was when i was told it was a Zinfandel. The reason for my confusion was because I had always thought Zinfandels only came it white which i did not like at all. So when i got told that I was pleasantly  surprised! I would recommend this simply to be shown a non white zinfandel.

Riebeek Cellars Shiraz

Name: Riebeek Cellers
Variety: Shiraz
Region: Swartland, South africa
Country: South Africa
Year: 2013
Price:$12 ($6.95 sale price)

Winery review: Often referred to as Shiraz Country, the Riebeek Valley is renowned for exceptional Shiraz wines. The Riebeek Shiraz is a lively rich wine, full bodied with a subdued smokiness on the nose and a pallet of ripe fruit and interesting spice.

My review: Ehh, honestly that was the best way to describe this wine in my opinion, it was a darker wine which i liked but for some reason the aftertaste was a bit tart? or smokey I'm not sure the right way to say it. I do think though that if you mix it with actual fruit to lessen the strong taste it would be better in my mind. But I wouldn't recommend it to me its not bad but its not good either. Again my own bias taste.

Santa Luz

Name: Santa Luz
Variety: Savignon Blanc
 Region: Valle Central

Country: Chile

Year: 2013

Price:$11(sale for 6.95)

Winery review: Like any good Sauvignon Blanc, this opens with oceanic aromas of citrus fruits, sea foam and minerality. In the mouth, it is juicy and stony, with washing acidity. Flavors of honeydew, lime and a nice grassiness finish firm, with good backbone. Drink this with salads, shellfish and ceviche.

My review: Another white wine….. I personally do not like white wines but thought to give this one a try. Again I found I still do not enjoy white wines the citrusy sweetness honestly is too much for me and this time again it was the same. The after taste however was pleasant and was mostly lime. Also a residue was left in my cup after drinking this wine was told that it is simply sediment which is good if not harmless to a person.
